LAS ANCIANAS
In December 2013 I returned to Santiago, Guatemala, a small village on the beautiful volcano-rimmed Lake Atitlan. My goal for this trip was to work with the elder center I volunteered at three years ago and to document the raw beauty of the women I visited. Each woman I photographed has her own story of hardship. Most of these women lost their husbands in the Guatemalan Civil War and many have no family left to support them. After seeing their homes and the extreme level of poverty they lived in I realized how fortunate my life has been. My intention is not to exploit these women's struggles; It is to celebrate their resilience and ability to find joy in a world full of suffering. I hope that other people can realize how lucky they are and use their good fortune to help people like these.
GETTING LOST
These photos were taken at Boboli Gardens in Florence, in Lucca and in Rome Italy.
SEEING DOUBLE
This is a series I shot in Florence and Rome Italy that focuses on couples.
